Here, in the southwest of Crete ancient olive trees can be found,
some of which are one thousand years old or even older. This variety
is called "tsounati", and exists mainly in this area. There are
approximately 2140 of this old sort in our very own groves.
We process the olives from them into a superior quality brand,
the so-called "native olive oil extra"
Zunati trees yield fruit every other year only. The trees blossom from
the end of April to the beginning of May. Since there are still olives
on the tree, they need to rest in the following year. Thus, we do not
exhaust the tree. In a one year cycle our trees yield 60% fruit and 40%
in the following year.
